Scrolling Suggestions with More no of Suggested Words

Done Typing & autocorrect

OverClocked TESTER ·

What:

Increasing the number of suggested words from the current three words to nine or twelve and make it scrollable like a certain another keyboard.

Why:

Very helpful for lazy typing that sometimes, we don’t even have to type a full word to write a sentence. Just tapping on the suggestions are enough.

@OverClocked scrollable suggestions are in build 427, and in 2.1.3 on the App Store. It's a new switch under Prediction, called Scrollable suggestions, off by default. With it on, the bar shows up to 12 suggestions and you swipe it sideways for more. The one space would insert stays on the far left, and the row jumps back to the start every time the suggestions change. A swipe along the bar only scrolls it, it never picks a word.

Amazing, can’t wait to test. Scrollable suggestions really helps with lazy typing.

@OverClocked one change before build 427 goes out (and 2.1.3 on the App Store): scrollable suggestions moved. They're not under Prediction anymore. You'll find them in the EF tab › LAB, marked BETA. LAB is a new place for settings I'm still tuning, and the switch there works only while Prediction is on and the bar is visible.

It's for tap typing only. When you swipe a word, the bar stays in the classic 3-suggestion mode with the best match in the middle, same as before. Once you tap letters again you get the scrollable row back.

That’s a nice move. Having scrollable suggestions during swipe would interfere with the speed and flow of typing.

@efko , The scrollable twelve-word suggestions during tap typing, switches to three-word suggestions during swipe typing. So far, so good. I will test more on word order and relevance match. One point though: before typing, when the text field is empty, the three default suggestions align left while the rest of the bar is blank. Could the default three words be displayed as before, covering the entire bar?

@OverClocked fixed in build 429, and it'll be in 2.1.3 on the App Store. When the bar has three suggestions or fewer, they now split the free space, so on an empty field I, The and I'm fill the whole bar again. The best match stays on the far left, since that's what space inserts. With one or two suggestions each gets the width of a regular slot and the rest stays empty, so a single word never becomes one bar-wide tap target. From four suggestions up nothing changed: the row keeps its natural widths and scrolls, so words don't jump around while you type.

I've been trying this feature for a few hours now and it's working wonderfully for me, I didn't think I'd need this

You didn't know that you needed an EFKey until now! ;-)

@efko I was typing “How to remove an old sticker from” on Gemini. When I entered the f, no suggestions appeared. Ideally, “from”would be a relevant option alongside others. “From” and additional suggestions appeared only after I typed “fr”.

@OverClocked with a single letter the bar only looked at what usually follows the previous word, and nothing after "sticker" starts with f, so you got just "f". It happens with any letter after a less common word. Fixed for build 436, and it'll be in 2.1.4 on the App Store: when the previous word has nothing to offer, the bar fills up with the most common words for that letter, so "f" gives you for, from and others.

@efko single letter which isn’t a common word is showing the suggestions now, in b436. ✌️
