Dictation like Wispr Flow

New Tools (translate, AI, dictation, clipboard, GIF, emoji)

I’d love to see smarter formatting for dictated text, similar to Wispr Flow.

Currently, dictation works really well, but longer dictated messages would benefit from automatic structuring based on context.

For example:

  • Automatically split longer dictations into logical paragraphs.
  • Convert spoken lists into bullet points or numbered lists.
  • Add appropriate punctuation and formatting to improve readability.
  • Preserve the original meaning while removing unnecessary filler words.

Ideally, this could be an optional feature that users can enable or customize through prompts.

Is this already achievable by modifying the AI prompt, or would it require a dedicated feature?

It would make longer dictations clearer, more readable, and ready to use without manually formatting paragraphs or lists.

@shauryanegi not through the prompt right now. The dictation prompt is fixed and tells the model to transcribe word for word, and custom AI actions only show up in the translator, not after dictation.

Wispr does this with models tuned for dictation cleanup that run on their own servers, which is a big part of what the subscription pays for. EFKey has no servers, on-device dictation runs on your phone for free. So the way I'd build it is an optional "clean up and format" step after you dictate, done through Apple Intelligence or your own API key, same as AI edits. It would drop filler words, add paragraphs and turn spoken lists into bullets, with your own prompt if you want something different. The raw transcript would stay one tap away in case the cleanup gets something wrong.

What do you think, would that work for you? Or do you need it without Apple Intelligence or an API key?

That sounds like a reasonable approach! I completely understand wanting to keep EFKey serverless, especially since on-device processing is one of its advantages.

I'm not sure how effective prompt-based cleanup would be compared to a model specifically tuned for dictation, but having configurable post-processing prompts through Apple Intelligence or a custom API key seems worth exploring.

One idea would be to let users save custom prompts as reusable actions, with an option to automatically apply one after dictation. That way, it could be a one-tap workflow (or completely automatic), while keeping the original transcript accessible if anything gets altered.

No complaints here, by the way. I'm really enjoying the app and just sharing ideas that could make it even better!

P.S. I'm also the person who raised this on Reddit. :)

That's exactly what I'm planning to do. Something similar already works with the AI transcription. And yeah, I knew it was you ;) Glad you're here

Oh, that's great! Being able to use custom AI actions directly after dictation would be really useful, especially with an option to run them automatically. Looking forward to trying it out. Really appreciate how open you are to feedback!

Only for really good ideas though! AI transcription is coming in the next update, and I'll look into dictation in the one after, so I'll keep this one open. Deal?

slimshady ·

Haha, deal! 😄 Just thought of this after trying apps like Wispr Flow. I think it'd make EFKey an even better all-in-one keyboard. No rush though, looking forward to the updates! Great work as always, I'm a fan!

Just curious, do you personally use Apple Intelligence or your own API key? Have you noticed any advantages of one over the other?

It wasn't available in my country. But I switched to the US region because of Siri AI (I'm from the EU), so it works for me now, though I'll admit I don't even use it, most of the time I'm sitting at my desk working on EFKey on the computer :D

Thank you for addressing these points; your work on this application is exceptional, and I appreciate your efforts. Well done.
