Autocorrection in Apps with Search Field

Done Typing & autocorrect

@efko

Autocorrect doesn’t work in apps such as YouTube because the host app disables it. Could we add a switch to toggle autocorrect in those search fields? I understand that autocorrect in a browser for a URL that is not a common word might cause issues, so a toggle should be okay. Or it would be great if it can be enabled for other apps with search field and disable for browsers.

@OverClocked YouTube marks its search box as a field that doesn't want corrections, and EFKey followed that like the stock keyboard does. Added for build 459 (and 2.2.1 on the App Store): Typing › More settings › "Autocorrect where apps turn it off". Browser address bars, emails and passwords stay uncorrected even with it on.

@efko autocorrection in the YouTube search works intermittently. Sometimes it picks up the autocorrection, sometimes doesn’t. First word may autocorrect, second won’t.

@OverClocked your export shows the switch working in YouTube: "engl" got corrected and "pronun" was left alone on purpose. Space fixes typos but never finishes a half-typed word; "pronunciation" was waiting in the middle of the bar for a tap, same as in any other app. If a real typo stays uncorrected in that search box, send me the word.

@efko you are right. The issue was with top predictions. When I typed, Engl, “English” was the top prediction and got inserted on space; but when I typed pronun, “pronunciation” wasn’t the top prediction so that word didn’t auto complete. I guess we need slightly more aggressive selection of top prediction, everywhere.

@OverClocked space only finished a word when a single letter was missing, so "pronun" with seven to go stayed a bar offer on purpose. Same thing as #B363, where Hungarian "nagysze" never became "nagyszerű", so I fixed both together for build 460 (and 2.2.1 on the App Store): once you've typed at least 5 letters and one word clearly leads the completions, space puts it in. "pronun" becomes "pronunciation", while short starts like "evi" still stay as typed.

The selection of top prediction is much better now.
