Custom autocorrect

Done Typing & autocorrect

Eric Cortman ·

Suggestion:

I frequently make a lot of typing mistakes that sometimes the autocorrect feature doesn’t always pick up. Simply things like “eith” instead of “with” will not have any auto correct with it. Maybe add a function where users can add custom words they misspell frequently that they can have autocorrect to the desired word. Probably a bad explaination of what I’m talking about so here’s an example of what that interface would look like.

Custom word auto correct:
Add below the word you type and what you want to auto correct to

user inputs the word “eith” since they commonly type that

Eith -> With

user inputs with as the desired outcome for the word “Eith”

Would be better if it learned frequent corrections. Doesn’t it do this already?

@Unmutual partly. EFKey learns the words you type and pick, so a typo tends to land on your words rather than random ones, and if you undo the same correction twice it stops making it. What it doesn't keep is a permanent "I typed eith, I meant with" pair. Swipe has something like that, but it only lasts 30 seconds. The catch with learning pairs automatically is that it would also learn the times you picked the wrong word, so for now a shortcut is the reliable way to pin one.

@Eric Cortman EFKey can already do this. Open the app, go to Tools › Shortcuts, tap Add shortcut and put "eith" as the shortcut and "with" as the text. Then turn on Insert automatically on the same screen, otherwise it only shows up in the suggestion bar and doesn't swap on space. With it on, "eith" becomes "with" after you hit space, "Eith" at the start of a sentence becomes "With", and a backspace right after puts back what you typed. EFKey shortcuts are part of Pro. Without Pro, the same thing works through iOS Settings › General › Keyboard › Text Replacement, and EFKey picks those up automatically.
