Auto-Space Joined Words Needs Refinement

Done Typing & autocorrect

OverClocked TESTER ·

Many commonly typed words are not auto-spaced when they’re combined by mistake. For context, stock keyboard suggests and/or auto corrects for all these examples:-

Ihave -> I have

Wehave -> We have

Thereis -> There is (There’s is suggested)

Hehad -> He had

Shehad -> She had

Theyhave -> They have (They’ve is suggested)

Theydont -> They don’t

Idont -> I don’t

Verygood -> Very good

Thatcould -> That could

But EFKey gets the following right:-

Wecould -> We could

Theywould -> They would

Thismight-> This might

Thatwould -> That would

Thiscould -> This could

@OverClocked the missing-space fix only accepted parts of two letters or more and didn't know that "dont" is "don't", so Ihave and Idont never split. Fixed for build 446 (and 2.2 on the App Store): they now become "I have" and "I don't", and Wehave and Theydont are fixed in the same build. Hehad, Theyhave, Verygood and Thatcould stay glued because the English dictionary lists those glued forms as words, so I'm removing them from the dictionary next, which comes as a separate dictionary update.

“I don’t“ works now, but not “I have”.

“We have” works if W is small letter.

”They don’t” work inconsistent. (Also, “I don’t” work inconsistently, it is a hit and miss)

The following joined words still don’t work:-

Thereis -> There is

Shehad -> She had

Theydont -> They don’t (works only if T in They is small letter)

Also the following which worked before, doesn’t work on b446:-

Thismight-> This might

Thatwould -> That would (works only if T in That is small letter)

Thiscould -> This could (works only if T in This is small letter)

@OverClocked the ones that failed were typed with a capital after other words, and a capital in the middle of a sentence is read as a name, so it stays as typed; at the start of a sentence or with a small first letter all of your examples split. Fixed for build 447 (and 2.2 on the App Store): Ihave and Idont split anywhere since "I" always has a capital, and Thereis and Hehad become "There is" and "He had". Verygood, Thatcould and Theyhave should already split on 446 after you reopen the app, the dictionary update is out.

@efko

The default autocorrection in bold is still Ihave like in the screenshot. “I have” is in the next suggestion in the bar but it should have been the default. I have checked the dictionary and removed “Ihave” from the learned words but it still happens.

Thereis, Shehad and Theydont still doesn’t work. (they don’t works if T is in lowercase)

@efko “I have” and “they don’t” works now.

“They don’t” works at random times.

“She had” and “There is” still doesn’t work.

@OverClocked while those weren't splitting, typing them a few times taught the keyboard Shehad and Thereis as your own words, and a learned word never gets split again; They don't came and went because a capital T only split at the start of a sentence. Fixed for build 457 (and 2.2.1 on the App Store): glued pairs aren't learned from typing anymore, and She, There, They, This, That, We and He with a capital split mid-sentence too. Shehad, Thereis and Theydont are already saved on your phone, so delete them once in Learned words.

@efko

I had removed the words from the learned words. “Shehad” wasn’t even on the list.

Theydont —> They don’t work consistently now.

The top prediction for “Thereis” is “There’s” which is also correct, but “There is” is not among the suggestions.

Google tells me that “Shehad” is an Arabic/Urdu word meaning honey. Could that be the reason it is still not splitting into “She had”. Could you check if the word is in your internal dictionary.

@OverClocked There's comes from a time you tapped it for Thereis in an older build, and the keyboard kept that pick over the new split. Fixed for build 458 (and 2.2.1 on the App Store): There is now shows up right next to it, and one tap replaces the old pick. Shehad isn't in the dictionary, so something on your phone protects it: a contact with that name (names never get split) or Settings › Never-corrected words. Can you check both?

OverClocked TESTER ·

“There is” was not suggested in b458 also. But when I long pressed and stopped “There’s” from suggestions, “There is” appeared again.

Shehad is not in contact list or never corrected word. It still doesn’t appear in suggestions. I doubt that when Shehad is typed, suggestions are only looking for nouns in the contact list. Meanwhile, “Shehas” splits into “She has” without any problems.

OverClocked TESTER ·

@efko , I had a contact named Shahad and whenever Shehad was entered the top prediction was Shahad. After stopping prediction for “Shahad” (moving to blocked words), “She had” appeared as the top prediction. So all the word combos are sorted for now, but a contact name having higher priority while “She had” wasn’t in any of the 12 scrollable suggestions could cause more joined words to not split in the future.

@OverClocked a contact or a word the keyboard learned from you (Shahad, There's) always beat the split, because the two-word reading entered that comparison as impossible and never even made it into the bar. Fixed for build 460 (and 2.2.1 on the App Store): Shehad becomes "She had" with Shahad right next to it, Thereis becomes "There is" with There's next to it, so you can unblock both.
