Long-press accented vowels
Could you make long-pressing vowels work like on the iPad keyboard? For example, long-pressing e would show é, so I can quickly select the accented character I need.

@Zoltán EFKey already shows the accented letters when you hold a vowel with Hungarian active (é, á, í, ó ö ő, ú ü ű). The popup also has the number from the key's corner, and that one is selected first. What happens when you try it: no popup at all, or you get the number instead of é? Or are you after something else, like the full set of accents the iPad keyboard shows?
First, when I press and hold a vowel key, the symbols appear instead of the accented letters.
@Zoltán the symbol from the key's corner sits in the long-press popup and is preselected, so a quick hold and release types it instead of the accent. By default it stays that way, since many people rely on it. In build 440 (and 2.2 on the App Store) there's a new switch, Keys → "Symbols on letter long press". Turn it off and holding e, u, o or a offers only the accents, with é, ú, ó, á preselected.
It’s working thanks!
Without the number row, long press of the upper row gives you numbers.
I would argue that people who choose not to have symbols on long press would also rather not have the numbers (me included :) ).
This would also make it more consistent in that e.g. with German long pressing o gives you ö directly instead of 9, just like long pressing a gives you ä directly.
What do you think?
@muleluku the switch only covered the symbols, so the top row kept its numbers when the number row is off. Fixed for build 442 (and 2.2 on the App Store): with "Symbols on letter long press" off, holding o in German gives ö right away, and numbers are only on 123.
This setting is the one I've been asking in combination with long-press hints.
Setting location is "off" for one of the two - setting long-press hints to "all" or "numbers only" makes no sense if this setting is disabled. They should stay closer together as they depend on eachother.
@CEE the switch changes what holding a letter types, so it stays in Keys, and the hints are about how keys look, so they stay in Style. Fixed for build 444 (and 2.2 on the App Store): each one now links to the other. With symbols off, the hints picker says letters show nothing in the corner and has a "Change in Keys" link right under it. Once 444 is out, could you check that both links open the right screen and land on the right row?
Sure, will do. Explanation makes sense, decisions are yours, just pointing out inconsistencies. 🫡
and I really appreciate it, thanks for that!
I find it off. Going to Keyboard and enabling Symbols on letter long-press, enables the link to hints, clicking it, opens a sub-view, allowing you to set the hints, then you get back. Navugation feels awkward, as we actually transitioned to Style part of the configuration, but here its just a Keyboard subview.
Anyway, let's enable both, symbol switch a d All hints, then leaving configuration.
Coming back to configuration at later time, I can disable the Symbols on letter long-press switch, link below is disabled as well, but in Style the Hints are still set to All, which doesn't make sense, as there are no symbols to be produced with long-press.
Another thing, with All hints and Symbols disabled, there are no hints on letters panel, but symbols and numbers do have them.
My suggestion would be - disabling Symbols on letter long-press sets hints to None and disables the section, but leaves the "link". Links should never be disabled.
@CEE the hints picker still controls the 123 and symbol pages, so turning symbols off can't reset it to None without wiping hints there too. That's also why those pages keep their hints while letters show none. Fixed for build 445 (and 2.2 on the App Store): the link under the switch is never disabled and shows the current hints setting, and Style now says the 123 and symbol pages still show hints. I'm leaving the Keys → Style jump as a push, same as search results in settings.
@Zoltán
is it still open, or can I close it?
Close please, thanks.
