What would you like?

That the search emoji screen feels less cramped. Give it a bit more breathing space, just as apple does. See comparison attached

Why it would help

Visually much more appealing

@Ed the emoji columns had no gap between them at all, so a row squeezed in about 10 emoji where Apple fits 7 or 8. Fixed for build 436 and 2.1.3 on the App Store: the columns now get space between them, and the search field is taller with room above and below it. The emoji themselves stay the same size, so the keyboard doesn't get any taller.

Tested. Just one thing: the height of the search bar is perfect when "one keyboard size" is selected. If that option is off, the bar is slightly lower and the text smaller. That one still feels cramped. I short, can you resize that one?

@Ed with that option off the emoji panel came out 2 pt short of the height I'd set for the roomy search bar, so it dropped all the way back to the old small one. Fixed for build 437 and in 2.2 on the App Store: the bar now takes whatever room is left above the emoji grid, so on your setup it's the same 36 pt as with "One keyboard size" on, with just 1 pt less space above and below.

Looks good! Tries many different scenarios. I just found a couple of times a situation where while resting, the keyboard size got much smaller when long pressing the 123 key. Too many variables in place to replicate it, hopefully the video, pictures and logs help finding it@efko

@Ed with "One keyboard size" off the letters and symbols pages have different heights, and Notes sometimes ignored the switch back, so the letters stayed squeezed into the shorter symbols height. Holding 123 doesn't resize anything by itself, but a short hold counts as a tap and switches the page. Fixed for build 438 and in 2.2 on the App Store: after every page switch the keyboard now checks the height it actually got and asks again if it's wrong.

Did you fix this in literally 22 seconds including logging? 🫥

efko DEV ·

No, I just changed the status of this report 22 seconds ago :)

efko DEV ·

@Ed is that okay?

Ed MOD ·

Sorry. Yeah I tested it yesterday but forgot to sign off. Accepted!
