Close keyboard by tapping the empty suggestion field (can work when keyboard idle and no typed text)

Swiping down had issues as informed by dev. This might work.

@E1ement swiping down on EF hides the keyboard reliably now. You can turn it on today in Customize the toolbar; from build 435 (and 2.1.4 on the App Store) it moves to Gestures, right under Swipe down on the spacebar, which you can also set to Hide keyboard. On an empty field the ⌄ icon in the suggestion bar does the same with one tap.
Swipe down on spacebar works perfectly.
