Shift caps cycling with cursor in the middle of a word

Done Typing & autocorrect fixed in 2.1.3

muleluku MOD ·

We decided previously, that shift caps cycling should only work when the cursor is placed at the end of a word.

In my daily typing I often go back somewhere in the sentence to edit. I tap where I want to edit and the cursor often lands at the beginning of the next word. I start typing and would just add the missing space after I finished what I wanted to insert at that point.

While inserting text that way, whatever I type is prefixed to the next word while typing and the cursor appears to be in the middle of a word. Therefore shift caps cycling doesn't work during the edit.

It would be helpful if I could still shift caps cycle the part before the cursor.

@muleluku done for build 428, and it'll be in 2.1.3 on the App Store. If everything before the cursor was typed since you last moved it, shift now cycles just that part, even when it's glued to the next word. So tap in front of "world", type "hello", shift gives "Hello|world", then "HELLO|world", and the cursor stays where it is.

Tapping into the middle of an existing word still gives a normal shift, so a capital letter inside a word works like before. The one thing it won't do: if you tap into "wo|rld" and type "ab", shift won't cycle "woab" because "wo" wasn't typed by you. I kept that on purpose so it never touches text you didn't just write.

Works perfectly for my use case.

So when you place the cursor in the middle of an existing word, you prevent shift cycling. This is also true, when you then type something in the middle of the word. But as soon as you hit backspace (doesn't matter if you did type something), you can shift cycle.

I don't see the problem with allowing shift cylcing with the cursor in the middle of an existing word, so I don't see a problem with the backspace thing.

But maybe you want to address that.

@muleluku changed it your way for build 430, and it'll be in 2.1.3 on the App Store. With the cursor in the middle of a word, shift now always cycles just the part before the cursor. Backspace no longer makes a difference. The cursor stays put and the rest of the word isn't touched, so "wo|rld" + shift gives "Wo|rld".

A capital letter inside a word still works: in "mac|os" shift briefly shows "Mac|os", and as soon as you type O it flips back and you get "macO|s".
