Unknown typed words cannot be instantly learned on Cyrillic keyboards
When manually typing an unknown word, EFKey is supposed to show that exact word in quotes as the left suggestion, allowing the user to tap it and learn it instantly.
This works correctly with Latin-script keyboards. However, I tested several Cyrillic keyboards - Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian and Russian - and the issue appears consistently on all of them.
On Cyrillic keyboards, the manually typed unknown word does not appear in quotes. Instead, the left candidate shows an existing dictionary word that EFKey considers a possible correction/suggestion. Therefore, there is no way to tap the actually typed word to learn it instantly.
Steps to reproduce
- Select a Cyrillic keyboard. Tested with Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian and Russian.
- Manually type a word that is not in the dictionary.
- Check the left suggestion before pressing space.
- For comparison, repeat the same steps using English/Danish keyboards.
What I expected
The exact unknown word I manually typed should appear in quotes as the left suggestion, so I can tap it to learn the word instantly. This is how it works on the English keyboard.
What happened instead
On all Cyrillic keyboards I tested (Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian and Russian), the manually typed unknown word does not appear in quotes. Instead, the left candidate shows an existing dictionary word that EFKey considers a possible correction (or nothing at all if there's no candidate).
As a result, there is no way to tap the word I actually typed to learn it instantly.

@unplugged the "typed word in quotes on the left, tap to learn it" path was wired only to the Latin-script engine, so on Cyrillic keyboards (Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian, Russian) the word you typed never got into the suggestion bar — you saw a dictionary guess instead, with nothing to tap. fixed for build 408: an unknown word you type now shows on the left in quotes, and tapping it learns it, just like on the English keyboard. if there's a dictionary suggestion it stays in the middle.
Since this was reported on the stable build, can one of our internal tester who knows the language verify this fix?
Tested this in TestFlight build 410 and it’s working perfectly now. Unknown words on all the Cyrillic keyboards I tested (Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian) now correctly appear in quotes on the left, so they can be tapped and learned instantly.
I also confirmed that after tapping the new word in quotes, it is learned immediately. If I then swipe the same word again, EFKey recognizes it and inserts it straight from the learned dictionary on the very next attempt.
Thanks for the fix! Everything looks great on my end.
