Keyboard doesn’t allow for switch between letters and numbers in Google Sheets
This is a bug in iOS itself. I can’t fix it from inside a keyboard, Apple has to. If you run into it too, tap me too here instead of reporting it again.
Steps to reproduce
- Open Google Sheets
- Click on a cell. Make sure keyboard is open.
- Above the typing line, in the right corner, a button showing 123 or ABC should pop up.
- Click the button.
What I expected
If the button shows 123, clicking the button will switch the keyboard to numbers pad. If the buttons is showing ABC, clicking it should switch the keyboard from numpad to regular keyboard (ie, letters). This is how the native keyboard acts, and this is how all the keyboards I’ve tried on Android work.
What happened instead
Nothing happens when I press the 123 button. The workaround that I found is to click the button, and then circle through the available keyboards (in my case just EFkey and emoji), and then the EFkey goes back to the desired layout.

This is the same behavior with all the 3rd party keyboards on iOS in Google Sheets. I suspect that this is an iOS limitation. However, I will let @efko validate this once.
@ivor.ef when Sheets switches the cell between letters and numbers, iOS only tells its own keyboard. A third-party keyboard isn't notified until it's opened again, so EFKey has nothing to react to, and that's why switching to emoji or another keyboard and back fixes it. Since 2.2.1 you can open a number pad yourself: add the Number pad button to the toolbar (EFKey app → Customize the toolbar), or with Pro add it to Actions on “123” and just hold the 123 key.
