both swipe and voice dictation are being overly aggressive, inserting names instead of words
Steps to reproduce
- Say or swipe any sentence with the word “manual” in it.
- The keyboard inserts “Manuel” instead
What I expected
The correct word I meant, manual
What happened instead
Manual was entered instead. And this is happening with a lot of other words that have similar sounding names. It's basically a complete reversal of the original bug record I made, where names weren’t being considered at all. It's now being overly aggressive and selecting the name instead of the appropriate word.

This has been addressed with the new typing engine. The word suggestions and predictions will be much better with it.
@borisb13 names you added to your dictionary got a fixed bonus in swipe that was big enough to beat a word your swipe matched clearly better, so once the names were ranked properly "manual" started losing to "Manuel". Dictation doesn't go through my dictionary at all, that "Manuel" comes straight from Apple's speech recognition. Fixed for 2.2, the next App Store update: a learned word now only wins when your swipe fits it about as well as the other word.
It's still happening on the new version. For example, even I try to swipe the word “try”, it populated “Terry”. There are other examples, but that's their most recent one that just happened.
Is it possible to add a "aggressiveness" slider for the name replacements? It can range from being completely off to always selecting the names, with maybe three or four levels in between?
Can you please try enabling "Bolder context correction" under settings?
I can't find that setting. I did a search of the settings, and the word bolder doesn't come up. Using version 2.2 b450
You don't have that setting yet. It's only coming in the next update ;)
just update to b466, but still don't see that setting
You can't see that setting because I decided to turn it on by default for everyone, so you basically can't switch it off. If you're still having trouble typing, try clearing your learned words dictionary.
