When the emoji row is full, some emoji are greyed out but the ones with skin tone aren’t

App Store Released Tools (translate, AI, dictation, clipboard, GIF, emoji) Minor — cosmetic or rare

Ed MOD · iOS 27 · IPhone 17 ·

Steps to reproduce

  1. Customize the emoji row
  2. Make sure you’ve got 9 emojis in place
  3. Now select emoji number 10. As a visual effect to show the user that no more emojis can be added, all possible emojis are getting greyed out.

What I expected

That all possible emojis are getting greyed out.

What happened instead

The emojos where one can chance the skin color aren’t greyed out. They should be though

Some other ideas on this screen:

  • please a temp text in the search bar
  • The text Add looks feels like a button somehow, that you can press it. Maybe change it to a sentence like add more emoji or anything similar
  • Perhaps show a message when 10 emojis are added by the user, and that one first needs to remove some emoji to add others, since max 10 are allowed

@Ed the emoji with a skin tone ignored the full row: tapping them did nothing, they just never got dimmed. Fixed for build 433: at 10/10 the whole grid dims, a line under the header tells you to tap × to make room, and the search field shows its placeholder again.

I’m still seeing the bug that Ed mentioned. The emoji’s where skin tone can be applied are not getting dimmed after 10 emojis are filled.

you are on 432 ;)

After 10th emoji is picked, all other emojis are grayed out.
