When autocorrection is off, it should be really off
As a user who likes a high degree of control, I have turned autocorrect off and prefer tapping on corrections myself. I am still getting several unexpected corrections.
Steps to reproduce
- Turn autocorrect off
- Type "I am i am" or "keybase"
What I expected
"I" or "key base" as main suggestion, without automatic correction
What happened instead
It corrected automatically
P.S. There are probably other cases. Though, paradoxically, automatic caps switching isn't perceived as "autocorrect" by me - I guess it's because it happens before typing.

There are two separate settings:
a) Typing > Language > Language exceptions > Capitalize "i" → "I"
b) Typing > auto-space joined words
Do they solve your issue when you turn those off?
The auto-spacing suggestions seem to work correctly after I switch it off. After I switch off "i" capitalization, i no longer have "I" in suggestions. So that's still not what i think is right.
Generally speaking - don't you think "autocorrect" should be one setting?
@glowhunter with 427 you can switch "Capitalize i → I" back on. When autocorrect is off it no longer changes anything, it only puts "I" next to "i" in the bar. With autocorrect on it capitalizes on space like before.
And yes, I agree on the one-setting part. Anything that changes a word after you type it is now tied to Autocorrection. Sentence-start caps is the only thing left outside, because it happens before you type.
@glowhunter fixed in build 427, and in 2.1.3 on the App Store. With autocorrection off, space now commits exactly what you typed. "i am i am" stays lowercase and "I" sits right next to it in the bar, one tap away. Same with "keybase": it stays joined and "key base" is offered in the bar. German noun capitalization (haus → Haus) follows the same rule.
The keybase one was plainly a bug. The bar showed "keybase" in the middle and space split it anyway, because auto-space had its own switch and ignored autocorrect. I moved "Auto-space joined words" under Autocorrection in settings, so it greys out when autocorrect is off.
Sentence-start caps and swipe work the same as before. I also left learned capitalization alone: names you keep typing with a capital still get it, since that comes from your own typing and not from a dictionary.
It seems fixed, but now when I type “i” the suggestion “I” appears on the left and not center. Am I missing something?
@glowhunter with autocorrect off I kept the middle slot for whatever space inserts, so your typed "i" sat there and "I" got pushed to the left. Fixed for build 438, and in 2.2 on the App Store: the best suggestion now sits in the middle in regular weight, your typed word is on the left in quotes, and space still inserts exactly what you typed.
@glowhunter fixed?
@efko yes
